Wisconsin products, including wool fabrics normally used for paint rollers, could be made to absorb the oil on the Gulf Coast.
Tuesday, Dan Sinykin, president of Monterey Mills, was heading to Louisiana to meet with British Petroleum officials on the use of wool as part of sanitation. The company is the largest manufacturer of Janesville nation knit pile and was contacted by BP after posting a video showing how YouTube and its wool absorbed the oil from water.
To attract the attention of BP, Monterey has made two videos which have received tens of thousands of hits on YouTube.
The first test of wool as a cleansing of the Gulf Coast are promising, according Sinykin.
"He has the ability to absorb lots of oil, he said, since a meter of fabric can absorb more than four times its weight in oil and water.
"They could use in wetlands, marshes and beaches. It is not too heavy for these applications, "Sinykin said, adding that the wool could be used to filter the water deep.
